FORD BOSTWICK | CHAIR
February 11 - March 15, 2024
With a background in architecture and sculpture, Ford Bostwick uses furniture, specifically chairs, to explore and test design ideas. Both chairs on show are made entirely of uniform pine wood parts with a square cross section. The size of the individual part determines the formal composition of the chairs where thinner sticks require more components to provide structure and larger beams can be carved to achieve an ergonomic form. Taking a single parameter and exploring it at different scales reveals the relationship between engineering and form-making.
Ford Bostwick is based in New York and works across architecture, engineering, and furniture design. His work creates spaces where form and construction relate to and amplify each other. The objects he creates depict the clear, considerate processes behind their making. In 2022, he received the ICFF Studio Award. His work has been featured in The Local Project, Design Milk, Interior Design Magazine, Elle Decor, AN Interior, and Seen Today. His work has been exhibited at BYB, New York, Thomas VanDyke Gallery, Brooklyn, La Mama Galleria, New York, Taaffe Gallery, Brooklyn, St. Marks Place, Brooklyn, and ICFF, New York. He received a Professional Bachelor of Architecture degree alongside a BFA in Sculpture from Syracuse University in 2013.
